Expert garden design and horticulture in the New Forest
Our clients had moved to an attractive new build property right on the sea front. The front garden could hardly be more exposed to the salt winds which were also channeled around the house into the rear garden. We used carefully selected planting to create shelter belts to filter the wind and allow us to create a garden in these most difficult of conditions. The garden takes inspiration from the natural planting along the shingle beach, the contemporary style of the house, and Derek Jarman's fantastic garden at Prospect Cottage.

Beach Planting
Taking inspiration from the nearby beach we included Crambe maritima and Armeria maritima. The Agave americana were planted for contrast and the planting has survived the very difficult conditions well.
The Rear Garden
Although the house provided some shelter the rear garden was still subject to strong salt winds. Prostrate Rosemary, Rosa rugosa 'Alba' and Tamarisk were some of the key choices in this more formal layout.
